Mont Ventoux

After our picnic lunch in Sault (baguette and cheese of course!) we drove up and over Mont Ventoux, which is about 6000ft and looks over the whole district, The strong Northerly was still blowing (think southerly) and from 25 degrees in Isle Sur la Sorge it dropped to 7 degrees at the summit in bright sunshine. Mt Ventoux is one of the most feared stages of the Tour de France, and now I know why. It is actually a very good road though and not particuarly steep (by Wellington standards) it just that the hill keeps going at a steady gradient for 20km and almost 2 km vertical rise. There were of course loads of cyclists testing themselves on the famous ascent and I was tempted to find a bike hire place the next day and see who many of the hordes of skinny frenchmen I could leave in my dust. But that question may remain unanswered for, as you can see from these photos, I already had my hands full with our little wiggly man.
