Port Douglas

We took a Holiday! Yes a holiday for no other reason than we felt like it and it was fantastic. We didn;t even spend a million yeras optimising the travel solution, Air New Zealand Holidays had such great packages that we did it all from their website in a few minutes. Destination Port Douglas, north of Cairns in tropical far north Queensland Australia. it is one of the really really nice corners of the world. here is the view looking North at the mountains of the Daintree Rainforest National Park. Here are some photos I took while running down the aptly named 'Four mile Beach' at dawn. Just behind the coconut palms are the 4 and 5 star resorts, but careful management has preserved this splendid beach. Later after watching cartoons in bed together on the hotel TV, we did some more running around on the beach. We had 7 perfect days, and there are lots more photos to come.

Matariki Fireworks

With the shortest day behind us and the Pleiades rising in the east before dawn we thought it would be good to cleberate the maori new year by letting off the fireworks we have been saving since Guy Fawkes. Matariki or mid winter in New Zealand is a far more sensible time to let off fireworks, than the 5th November. In July it's dark early, everything is cold and wet and un-inflamable. (Matariki , is the maori name for the Constellation of Pleiades, whos appearance marks mid winter), So here we are with our friends, letting off fireworks with a three year old, in th emiddle of winter, what could be more sensible?!

Working on the Railway

The cold winter days continued through July but it gave us a chance to get the railway a bit more established.
Guy meanwhile discovered a new and relaxing way to watch his favorite videos.
